Change of Ownership

Today, Cairns Wedding Planner welcomes a new owner and lead planner, the amazingly talented, patient, creative and all around wonderful Kirsty Lisle.

After nearly four years, it is time for me to step aside to focus on my growing (announcement #2!) family and my other business, Hire For Baby – Cairns & Tropical North Queensland

I want to take the opportunity to thank every client, supplier, supporter, my family, and my husband for all of your support and friendship over the years. Being a wedding planner can be a stressful role, but one of the most rewarding I have had. I truly appreciate all the love, advise, and help I have received over the years…thank you!

I have been asked a lot lately if I will miss planning weddings and the thing I think I will miss the most is what I call “The Moment”.

There is a moment before you see a couple wed where you are standing there and it is just you, the bride, and (sometimes) her escort. She looks at you for one last reassuring smile; you take a deep breath with her, fix the veil, adjust the dress, and send her off to her enthusiastic groom to say the most important words that will be shared between them. Every time that moment comes…I get chills.

This incredible business is one that I will cherish for many of years to come, but for now, I will spend some time with my husband watching our two boys, Edsel (2 years) and Sullivan (1 year) create beautiful chaos before we welcome our third addition to the family in January.

Welcome Kirsty to one of the best jobs in the world! After three years of assisting I am sure you are more than ready to take the reins and help create beautiful memories for couples for many years to come!

Liesel + Mitchel – Cairns Cruise Liner Terminal Wedding – 13th July 2013

Townsville based couple Liesel and Mitchell are the epitome of sweetness. These two met at Groovin’ in the Moo and have been loved up ever since. Their gorgeous wedding was featured in Queensland Brides. Check out the link here.

Below is from Queensland Brides website:

How did you meet?

Through mutual friends at a Townsville music festival 4 years ago. For me it was an instant attraction, for Mitchell – it took some convincing!

Tell us about the proposal…

Mitchell had a beautiful surprise proposal planned (little to my knowledge) however due to work commitments – I was unable to go ahead with his secret plans! His back up option however was more perfect than I could ever imagine – in our recently purchased first home, with our 2 beautiful King Charles Cavaliers, eating a home cooked meal. He presented me with the long awaited and thought about (on my behalf) platinum & diamond solitaire ring – and I said yes!

DIY Details

I really wanted our wedding to be personal and feature special DIY details. With personalised menus, straws, napkins, guest bathroom baskets, personalised macaroons for guests – I felt that we achieved just that. Many of our items were from Etsy or I had designed in conjunction with a graphic designer. Most of them required assembly by us – and that proved to be a time consuming venture!

Key Styling Inspiration

I feel that our wedding day really represented Mitch and I as a couple. It was perfect and we both put a lot of time into the day together.

What was the funniest moment of the day?

It would have to be the speeches given by my sister and Mitchell’s brother.

Special memory?

Our whole wedding day will forever be a special memory. On the 21st July 2012 (the morning of our engagement party) my father suffered from a brain aneurysm – which left him in the Intensive Care Unit in Brisbane for over 3 weeks. He has made a remarkable recovery with absolutely no deficits – so it was the most special day to be able to have my dad there nearly exactly 1 year later – celebrating with us. Something I thought we would never get to do!

Special thanks to…

Special thanks to our family and friends who made the effort to come all the way to Cairns to celebrate our special day. Also a special thanks to all of our suppliers – without them we would not have had such a beautiful wedding. Most of all a special thanks to my husband – who chose to marry me and has made me the most happy woman in the world!

Do you have any advice for future brides-to-be?

Be organised and prepared- and get a wedding co-ordinator!  Our whole wedding ran smoothly with no problems – and I owe our wonderful wedding planner Claudette for that!”

Congratulations Liesel + Mitchell!

Hannah – Darren – 15 Wharf Street Port Douglas Wedding – 21st August 2014

Coming from all the way across the ditch, Hannah and Darren decided to have their wedding in Port Douglas. A relaxed day with amazing food and a fab party was in order, and with most of their guests visiting from New Zealand, they wanted a great holiday vibe.

After much hunting for the perfect venue, the couple settled on 15 Wharf Street in Port Douglas. This place is heaven on earth. I brought my husband along on a site inspection and we wanted to move in immediately. The view is breathtaking, the pool is amazing, and you cannot beat the proximity to Little Cove for the ceremony!

Hannah and Darren had such a great day and we were more than honoured to help them with their planning and to create the day they wanted. We wish them all the very best and many years of happiness, laughter, and mischief!

Congratulations Hannah + Darren!

Hannah + Stewy – Cairns Wedding – 9th August 2014

When Hannah + Stewy got engaged, I think it maybe took 2 weeks for Hannah and I to set up a meeting and get chatting about her wedding. Kirsty and I actually used to work with these two and since they met at work, we can say that we have been there from the very beginning.

These two are so loved up it is adorable. Hannah just beams with happiness and Stewy does everything under the sun to show her how much he loves her. They decided to have their wedding at the Pullman International in the Ballroom and my oh my, what a grand ballroom she is. The scale of the room, the gold chandeliers, everything worked perfectly with her gold and lavender colours. They had an amazing day and we could not be happier for them.

Congratulations Hannah + Stewy!

Ben + Jenny – Romantic Cairns Proposal – Great Barrier Reef – 18 December 2014

Geeked would be an understatement when I read my email from Ben of Hong Kong. Him, his girlfriend, and their families were coming to Trinity Beach for holiday and he wanted us to put together his proposal to the beautiful Jenny!

Now we see a lot of couples getting married but we see few right from the very beginning so I could not wait to get started. After much discussions, we settled on a helicopter trip out to a secluded sand cay on the Great Barrier Reef, accompanied by “tourists” (a photographer and videographer). When they landed, the pilot, who was in on the secret, set up a gorgeous little spot with a hamper and placed a bottle in the sand with a note.

Ben took Jenny’s hand and walked to the bottle and got down on one knee and asked her to marry him! Of course she said yes! After some celebratory champagne and a scenic flight back to Cairns, a private car took them to a lunch to celebrate with their family at L’Unico.

It was such an amazing experience to be part of (I have goosebumps writing this) and I wish them so much love and happiness in their future.

Congratulations Ben + Jenny!

Kylie + Hayden – Port Douglas Sugar Wharf Wedding – 30 July 2014

This couple…oh this couple. They are not just jaw droppingly beautiful on the outside but on the inside as well. They came all the way to the stunning Port Douglas to have their wedding. With a sea of family and friends, they were able to celebrate their wedding at Rex Smeal Park and the Sugar Wharf.

Almost every guest had a hand in putting the day together, family made the decorations, friends did the flowers…it gave the day such a warm personal feel. It was such a pleasure to get to know these two on their journey and we wish them years of happiness and laughter!

Congratulations Kylie + Hayden!

Geyam + Tom – Cairns Cruise Liner Terminal Wedding – 6 July 2013

When I first met Geyam, it was over coffee with her lovely daughter at ReHab on Lake Street.  They told me about their family and how they wanted to incorporate the traditions of both and I can honestly say, I walked out of there beaming.  The two families have a rich cultural history which I could not wait to bring together!  Geyam is from Papua New Guinea and Tom is from Scotland.  How can one not be excited about an Island style tartan wedding!

The family brought their design ideas to the table and we worked with them to help create a memorable wedding.  We became so close to this family over the planning that by the time it came to the wedding we knew almost half of the 150 guests!

Check out their wedding below – Congratulations Geyam + Tom!

Abby + Steven – 20 August 2014 – Kewarra Beach Resort Wedding

Abby and Steven’s wedding was the epitome of relaxed beach glamour.  Held at Kewarra Beach Resort, this couple along with their family and friends, many who travelled all the way from their native England, enjoyed a full day relaxing in sun and enjoying their sand between their toes at their beachy nuptials.

Not only did they host one beautiful reception, they also were able to drink their fill of beer from Abby’s father brewery (yes Steven is a lucky man for many reasons!).

Congratulations Abby + Steven!

Amanda + Alex – Cairns Beach Elopement – 19 July 2014

Nothing speaks romance louder than whisking away to get married in one of your favourite travel destinations.  Amanda and Alex did just that in July 2014.  After getting ready at their hotel, they drove together as a family to the Cairns Yacht Club in Ellis Beach for their elopement.  It was a beautiful ceremony in a stunning location right next to the sand.

After the I Do’s and much love and laughter, the new Bride and Groom, their children, and 8 guests travelled back to town for a gorgeous dinner.  We were honoured to put together this elopement for them and are thrilled to say…

Congratulations Amanda + Alex

Meg + Pete – Trinity Beach Wedding – 4 October 2014

From the very first meeting, I knew that I would get along with this couple like a house on fire.  Meg and Pete, both Cairns locals, wanted a laid back affair by the beach in Trinity Beach.  The main focus (after the I Do’s) was the party, and oh man did they party!  Even their dogs got to join in.

Finger food was served all night and guests had plenty of space around the Coral Sands Resort in Trinity Beach to relax or dance, which ever they chose.  Kirsty made sure that every detail was perfect and the day ran as smooth as possible.  This couple had an amazing evening with their nearest and dearest and we were honoured to be a part of that!

Congratulations Meg + Pete!
